Yet another few more weeks of daily tweets to share here as a single post to make them “easier” to find and read. So often we are tempted to just let our children play their video games or watch TV. The challenge is to come up with activities that will mold the mind, help develop imagination and keep the child wanting for more.
Tips 121 through 135:
-
Make your own trail mix with item from the bulk bins at the supermarket – put in Valentine’s Day themed treat bags for classmates
-
Get disposable cameras – hold a “nature” photo contest for the playgroup. Give broad guidelines, large timeline – discuss & praise
-
Make homemade stamped Valentine’s Day cards – use potatoes or sponges – cut out stamping shapes – dip in paint & let him stamp away
-
Use old cards (thrift shop) to make Valentine’s Day collage – add a school picture & a heartfelt message for mom or grandma…

Use an old out of style tie or get one at a thrift store. Since you are going to cut and re-purpose it, you might want to wash it. Put it in a lingerie bag and let it air dry flat.
You will need: necktie, scissors, glue, Velcro dots (sticky type), needle and thread (if sewing), clothespins (if gluing)
Cut a 9-inch long piece; don’t include the point of the tie when you measure. If the from of the tie is sewn to the back, carefully cut the threads.

Fold the cut opening inside itself and sew or glue it together. If using glue use clothespins to fold the seam in place until the glue have dried.

Stick a Velcro dot (or square) on the inside of point of the tie. Put the other dot on the tie in a position so that when the dots meet they will keep the case closed.

For fun you could make the case look like a cat by adding googol eyes, pompom nose and felt ears (as seen above).
