Middle School Boy Books: The Dollar Kids

In today's world, it can be hard to pervade that middle school mindset. The middle school kids of today deal with so much more than we did at their age. We always try to highlight a book that kids can relate to, this month we have found a book perfect for the middle-school student in your life.

The Dollar Kids follows twelve-year-old Lowen, an amateur comic-book artist, as he traverses the long road of grief. Lowen's neighbor, Abe, has recently died. Lowen hasn't told anyone, but he thinks it's his fault. It is affecting everything in Lowen's life -- he cannot even write or draw anymore. When he hears that a town is giving away houses for only $1 he and his family think it is the perfect opportunity to move away from the town where only grief follows them and try to begin anew. But his family soon discovers that no matter where you go things tend to catch up to you.

The Dollar Kids - Book for Boys

This is a beautifully written story about the honest things in life -- it details emotions, fears, life, happiness, and the love we share with our family and friends. It is a coming-of-age novel that really exhibits the struggles a student in middle school would endure. It shows how a person can grow from loss, can learn from struggle, and that together a family can survive just about anything.
